A SHOPKEEPER was held at knifepoint over a bottle of booze.

The 60-year-old shop worker was threatened with the blade while working at Londis in Airdrie.

Around 5.15pm on Sunday October 22, a man came in to the shop on Motherwell Street before fleeing with a bottle of alcohol.

The thug, who is described as white and around 5ft 10in tall, ran into Drumbathie Road.

He was wearing a yellow hi-vis jacket, dark Puma hoodie, dark trousers and grey trainers and had a distinctive tattoo with writing and symbols on his neck.

Detective Constable Joe Todd, Coatbridge CID, said: “Thankfully the shopkeeper was not injured and whilst only one bottle of alcohol may have been taken from the shop, to be threatened with a knife by someone is a very frightening experience.

“Officers are currently checking CCTV from the shop and the street and carrying out door to door enquiries, however, I would appeal to anyone who either may recognise the description of the man or who has any information that will assist officers with their enquiries to contact Coatbridge CID on 101.
