We’ve become used to seeing Scots actor Gerard Butler with his big, bushy beard for almost a year now. Sadly, it is no longer.

The 300 star took to his social media channels this week to post a video of himself shaving the fuzz off as he prepares to take on the role of a commanding officer in 2018 action thriller film Hunter Killer.

Sitting with a set of clippers, with a cloak draped around his shoulders, the 47-year-old laments as he prepares to brave the shave.

He says to the camera: “I have to cut my hair, shave my beard to do some additional photography on Hunter Killer. I’m totally depressed.”

“Oh, Mummy! Gone, gone, gone!” he yells as he loses the beard.

He later posted a series of snaps, including of the finished result.

Understandably, die-hard Butler fans were left devastated at the loss.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” posted one gutted fans, as another added, “That sucks love your rugged look.”

The actor is a regular face in the media and, just last week, the Paisley-born star told how he was admitted to hospital after being injected with the venom of 23 bee stings.

The actor said he had misused a recommended remedy to ease aches and pains from performing movie stunts, and the result sent him into anaphylactic shock.

He used the supercharged artificial bee sting following 12 hours working on wires in a 65lb spacesuit for new sci-fi thriller Geostorm.

He told TV presenter Graham Norton: “My arms swelled up, I went into anaphylactic shock, and was hospitalised. It turns out you are meant to have one bee sting per week.”
