Police are appealing for information after a dispute over a taxi resulted in a man and woman being assaulted in Motherwell.

The pair had left The War Office pub on Milton Street to get a taxi around 12.15am on Monday when the incident happened.

The 53-year-old man became involved in a disagreement about the taxi with another man who punched him to the face, causing him to fall to the ground and injure his leg.

The suspect then punched the woman, 47, to the face before leaving in the taxi.

Both victims were taken to Wishaw General Hospital and released after treatment.

The suspect is described as 5ft8 to 6ft in height, of slim build and was wearing a black baseball cap and grey clothing.

Detective Constable Gerry Hattie from Wishaw CID said: “This type of violent behaviour will not be tolerated and enquiries are ongoing to trace the individual responsible.

“We understand that a number of people were in the area and will have witnessed what happened and I would appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.

“In particular we would like to speak to three women who were in a car outside the pub at the time as they may have important information to assist with the investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Wishaw CID via 101 and quote incident number 0057 on Monday 23rd October 2017. Alternatively you can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.”
