HELICOPTERS taking emergency patients to Glasgow's superhospital are being diverted following damage to the roof.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said a section of the roof of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital was damaged during routing maintenance work.
A specialist team has been drafted in to assess the damage.
The health board said that while work is ongoing, as a precaution, the helipad will not be used for emergency patients from outlying areas.
Helilcopters will be diverted to contingency sites.
A spokesman for NHSGGC said: "A section of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital’s roof was damaged during routine maintenance carried out by one of our contractors.
"A specialist team will assess the damage and identify the necessary repairs.
"As a precaution, while this work is carried out any helicopters bringing patients to the hospital will divert to the contingency sites routinely used during high winds in order to enable staff to carry out the repair work."
