HUNDREDS of people took part in a 5k run around a sun-drenched Queen’s Park in memory of Moira Jones, who was murdered there almost ten years ago.
Moira’s mother Bea, greeted the runners, some dressed in Halloween costumes, ahead of the 3 mile race which raises funds for families affected by violent crime.
Bea said she was “touched” that so many had turned out for the morning event, which was open to runners over the age of 14. She was supported by her husband Hu.
Moira was murdered in the park in May 2008, at the age of 40, just yards from her home.
Slovakian Marek Harcar was jailed for life for her murder in April 2009, with a minimum term of 25 years.
The race was launched in 2014 to celebrate Moira’s life and help ‘reclaim’ the park for local people.
Dame Elish Angiolini, the former Lord Advocate who led the prosecution at the trial of Moira’s killer, is a patron of the charity.
