A BAD driver who backed into 'street furniture' has been banned from the roads.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, William McKenzie admitted driving a car without insurance along Tollcross Road on June 3 this year.

As a provisional licence holder only, the 36-year-old also pleaded guilty to driving without the supervision of a qualified driver and failing to display L plates.

During the course of his journey, the accused drove the car dangerously by reversing at speed – during which he lost control of the vehicle, mounted the pavement and collided with what was described as street furniture.

The court was told the accident happened at around 5.20pm. When police attended at the scene, McKenzie was found within the black Mercedes C-Class in a state of shock.

After official checks, it was discovered the accused was only the holder of a provisional licence.

In defence, Mr Robertson claimed the driving gaffe was a "classic error of judgement".

McKenzie, of Academy Street in Sandyhills, had his licence endorsed and was disqualified from driving for a year.

He was also fined £300 and sentenced to a Community Payback Order with 130 hours of unpaid work to be completed within four months.
