THERE is just one week left to nominate your Sports Person of the Year.

And last year's Young Sportsperson winner has urged readers to get involved for the confidence boost a win can give young athletes.

Christopher Grimley is a rising star of the badminton world and took the top gong in his category for the 2016 awards.

Former Glasgow School of Sport pupil Christopher said: "It was nice to be recognised for my achievements from the year before the awards as my brother and I did have quite a lot of good results.

"It boosts your confidence to win an award like that. Such a big achievement helped me to keep focused and work hard in training.

"It's good to know that your achievements can be recognised."

Christopher and his twin Matthew are among the best young badminton players in the country and last year Christopher was rewarded for his efforts with the Evening Times Young Sportsperson of the Year Award.

The 17-year-olds are currently in Hungary competing in the YONEX Hungarian International.

Their training involves a six day week of sessions from 8am until 11am and 3pm until 5pm, practicing on the court, weight training and running.

But their intensive training schedule has not put them off their studies with both teenagers enrolled in an Open University degree programme for Sport, Fitness and Coaching.

The doubles pair is now looking forward to the 2018 World Junior Championships in Ottawa, Canada.

At last year's Sports Person of the Year Awards, Christopher joined a line up including Andy Murray, Gordon Reid and Rose of Lima Primary School.

Tennis champ Andy was our Sportsperson of the Year while fellow tennis star Gordon took Glasgow Disabled Athlete of the Year.

Rose of Lima Primary School pupils were delighted to take ?Glasgow Primary Sports School of the Year and the Lord Provost Award.

Councillor David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow Life, said: “This year has been yet another remarkable year in our proud sporting journey and Glasgow shone on the global stage with high-profile events such as the TOTAL BWF Badminton World Championships taking part in our city.

“Glasgow Life’s Sports Person of the Year Awards is one of the most important annual events in the Glasgow calendar.
