Carvill punched Hanley on the head and body during the attack and was restrained by prison staff.

After the attack Hanley had posted on his Facebook account “Had warmer baths, still the best looking c*** in Govan”.

Carvill pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the prison assault to Hanley’s injury on December 10, 2016.

Sheriff Martin Jones QC jailed Carvill for 12 months for the attack.

The pair were on remand at the time and stood trial earlier this year for allegedly attempting to murder Liam Bolger and Jay Fraser in Linthouse, Glasgow, in July 2016.

They were acquitted of the charge at the High Court in Livingston although Hanley was sentenced to four years in June this year for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

On December 10, Hanley left his cell to get food and prison officer Paul Hamilton walked in front of him.

Mr Hamilton heard a voice say “ya c***” and saw Carvill coming out of his cell holding a kettle with boiling water which he threw over Hanley’s face.

Fiscal depute Mhairi Alexander said: “The accused then dropped the kettle and proceeded to repeatedly punch Mr Hanley to his head and body.

Miss Alexander told the court that Hanley “refused to co-operate with police” after the incident.

Defence lawyer James Reilly told the court the incident was as a result of an argument over a girl.

He produced a copy of a Facebook post made by Hanley that said: “Had warmer baths, still the best looking c*** in Govan”.
