WES FODERINGHAM is confident defender Ross McCrorie will take his rise through the Rangers ranks in his stride this term.

The 19-year-old kept his place in the starting line-up against Partick Thistle on Saturday as interim boss Graeme Murty choose to leave out Bruno Alves on his return to the squad.

And McCrorie made the most of his chance to impress as he capped another solid performance with his first goal for the Light Blues.

After helping Murty’s side to a win over Hearts last weekend, it was another step in the right direction for the defender against the Jags as he partnered Danny Wilson at the back.

The Ibrox shutout was only the third that Rangers have recorded on Premiership duty this term as they moved to within three points of Aberdeen in the standings.

And keeper Foderingham was pleased to see McCrorie play his part once again on what was a dream afternoon for the Auchenhowie graduate.

He said: “Yeah we haven’t had too many clean sheets this season, that is something we are trying to work on and thankfully we got one today. I think we defended well as a team, and Ross was brilliant.

“He has been taking everything in his stride, he is a very level-headed young man. He had a fantastic debut and he’s done really well since he has come into the side, and I am really chuffed with him.

“You never know with young players but I think he has all the tools to go all the way. Like I say with young players you never know, it is down to him to do the rest of it.

“Honestly he is the most level headed young man you will ever meet so any praise that he gets is due.

“As footballers you have to have that kind of mentality, one minute you can be doing really well and the next minute the world is against you.

“As a footballer you have to have that mentality but at the moment he is doing really well.”
