THE Melbourne Cafe in Saltcoats stepped back in time to the swinging sixties on Sunday as Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox arrived to meet two Celtic fans retracing a road trip first undertaken 50 years ago by an Evening Times journalist.

Bobby spent four hours signing special posters of himself pictured at Saltcoats beach for hundreds of eager fans before tucking into some ice cream from Mancini's.

Barry Sweeney and Martin Coyle are on an epic journey first travelled by Evening Times journalist, John QUinn, in 1967.

John led the ‘Celticade’ of 15,000 fans in a green-and-white Hillman Imp to see Celtic's momentous, 2-1, European Cup win over Inter Milan in Lisbon.

The Bishopbriggs cousins are doing it for their late fathers, John Coyle and Thomas Sweeney, who never made it to Portugal, and for the legions of supporters who crammed into anything with wheels to get to the game.

And just like John, they are doing it in a 1967 green-and-white Hillman Imp, called Wee Jinky, in memory of Celtic player, Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Johnstone.
