Glasgow residents will be able to remember a loved one this Christmas while supporting a worthwhile cause.

As part of Visit West End's Christmas showcase, their twenty-foot Christmas tree will be decorated with unique festival baubles in partnership with the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The showcase will bring together local businesses, festive fun, gifts and entertainment in the heart of Vinicombe Street.

Taking place on November 26, the street will be transformed into a winter wonderland as Visit West End set up an entertainment stage with live musical performances from local bands and rock choirs.

Bella, the mascot from the Beatson Cancer Charity, will be on hand to light up the Christmas tree while baubles and cards will be on sale with proceeds going to the charity.

The surrounding lanes will also be transformed with red post box where kids can deliver their letter to Santa on Ruthven Lane or enjoy the talents of their balloon modeller in Cresswell Lane.

A festive market will be serving Christmas gifts, cards and food and drink from local businesses.

The Beatson festive baubles and cards will available to buy from the Christmas market at the light switch on from volunteers.

Money raised will go towards ensuring Beatson Cancer Charity continue to provide the best services for their patients and families in Glasgow.

David Howat, Chair of the Byres Road & Lanes BID Company Ltd, said: “We’re back; last year was such a success that we couldn't wait to spread some festive cheer and light up the West End with our Christmas tree again on Byres Road.

“It’s time to get excited Glasgow, we have secured some amazing local acts to perform, and this year the local shops and businesses will dazzle and surprise with what you can find locally on your doorstep.

"So come down, support your local businesses and enjoy a large sprinkle of festive cheer and feel good atmosphere.”

Maisie Hamilton, Beatson Cancer Charity’s community fundraising manager, said:

“Beatson Cancer Charity is delighted to be working in partnership for the first time with Visit West End, the Byres Road and Lanes Bid.

“Our mascot Bella Beatson will be making a star appearance to turn on the Christmas Lights and our fantastic team of volunteers will be doing collections throughout the day and selling Christmas cards.

“Thanks to the support from Visit West End, Beatson Cancer Charity can continue to provide vital funding to patient and family support services, plus a range of specialist posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research-based staff as well as additional staff training and development.”

The Christmas celebrations will be kicking of on November 26 from 12pm until 7pm on Vinicombe Street and surrounding lanes

Entertainment on the main stage is from 2.30 pm with choirs, covers and bags of festive cheer.
