A man has been arrested over a robbery that left a shop worker seriously injured.

The 63-year-old female employee remains in a critical condition following the attack in Catrine, East Ayrshire, on Sunday afternoon.

Police launched an investigation and a 39-year-old man has been arrested.

He is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said: "A 39-year-old man has been arrested and is presently detained in police custody in connection with the alleged attempted murder and robbery on Sunday November 5 at the Catrine Convenience Store in St Germain Street, Catrine.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."
