THERE will be no lack of motivation for Pollok’s players when they take to the field tomorrow against Royal Albert in what is the first defence of their New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup crown.

Their very footballing futures with the well-to-do Glasgow outfit could well be on the line judging by the scathing blast delivered by team boss Tony McInally in the wake of Clydebank inflicting a 2-0 defeat on his array of top Junior talents in last weekend’s Sectional League Cup Final.

Macca was allegedly disgusted with his side’s inept Somervell Park display and last night he owned up to making his feelings known behind a closed Newlandsfield dressing room door in midweek .

The Lok gaffer revealed: “There is no disputing the hungrier and better team won the game so first and foremost I would like to acknowledge that Clydebank deserve all the praise going.

“Kieran McAnespie was able to make four changes to the team that recently lost 4-0 to us in a Super Premier Division whereas having to go without five of our Newlandsfield starting line-up left us looking a pale shadow of our winning side.

“We just weren’t at it if truth be told and only three of the guys received pass marks in my assessment of our performance while there were others who were told they had picked the Final to play their worst game in a Pollok jersey.

“I won’t name names or go into the detail of what was said but suffice to say voices were raised and it was made abundantly clear to the players that they had badly let down this club and our supporters.

“Look, they were hurting themselves on account of knowing they are capable of so much better as a team and as individuals so it’s vital we get the Cup Final out of our system and the sooner the better.”

The New Coin Holdings clash with Royal Albert ,a fortnight on from when Pollok ran out 4-1 Scottish Junior Cup winners over their Central Second Division opponents, appears to provide that opportunity however McInally reckons a more exacting 90 minutes is in prospect this time out.

He added, “Royal Albert were physical and very energetic to the extent that we had to work exceptionally hard for our goals in the Scottish tie and they were certainly no pushovers .

“Their pitch continues to have drain issues and has already been declared unplayable but this time James Nesbitt has decided to switch the game to Craighead Park in Lesmahagow and I can only think it’s because he feels the notoriously heavy playing surface will help his team’s chances of an upset.

”Hopefully not but there’s no doubt we’ll need to roll up our sleeves and earn the right to play.”

Pollok ‘s talisman striker Stefan McLuskey is yet again sidelined as he battles back from an ankle ligament injury however his absence is softened by the likely return of Adam Forde if the lively front man suffers no adverse reaction to his return to training this week.

Another definite non-starter) is commanding centre back Martin McGoldrick and his work commitments situation was defended by McInally in saying.

“Martin has never made a secret of the fact his work would necessitate trips to Dubai during the season and I was prepared to accommodate his absences.

“However his situation took a new twist in September when an offer of a permanent move out there early in the New Year was put on the table and to his credit he kept myself abreast of these developments.

“But talk of this being a done deal is a tad premature to say the least as verbal discussions are all that has taken place and nothing is confirmed so he remains a Pollok player and a very important one at that so we will use him when and where myself and my backroom team see fit .”

Rob Roy figure prominently on the comings and goings front after it was announced that current Rabs No 2 Gordon Moffat is to be unveiled as Rossvale’s new team manager ,following Brian McGinty’s move to Irvine Meadow .

The Kirkintilloch club have also released close season midfielder signing Robert McGuire who has put pen to paper on a move back to his former club where younger brother Darren has been attracting rave notices since stepping up from Possil Y.M.

Candy Rock boss Andy Cameron has also boosted his playing numbers with the acquisitions of ex-Edinburgh City midfielder Reece Glacken and promising Albion Rovers striker Ryan McManus.

And eyebrows have been raised by a shock managerial ousting in Ayrshire where Darvel have parted company with popular gaffer Scott “Paddy” Clelland just five months after he steered his club to the Ayrshire District League .
