THE city's foodbanks are calling on the help of the public for their upcoming collection this month.

Glasgow South West Foodbank and Glasgow South East Foodbank will hosting their final Foodbank Friday of 2017 at Glasgow Central.

Volunteers will be based at the station on Friday, November 24 from 7am until 7pm.

As well as asking members of the public for cash donations, they are also short of volunteers to help them with their collection.

They said: "Thanks to Network Rail, the five Glasgow Trussell Trust have the opportunity to do a cash collection which we share equally.

"It is quite a challenge to staff these events - they run for 12 hours and we have three entrances to cover so we would like to have four people collecting at any time, with two at Gordon Street and six at the rush hour.

"We are trying to avoid anyone doing more than a two hour shift - so we are looking for lots of volunteers.

"If you can spare a couple of hours please message us and we will be delighted to add you to the rota."

Those who haven't the time to volunteer are still welcome to stop and say "hello" and donations would be very gratefully received.

However, volunteers are not allowed to accept food at the station and will be taking cash only.
