CARS swerved out the way to avoid a man who fell onto the road after he was attacked by a bottle thug.

The 31-year-old was attacked by a man armed with a bottle as he walked along Glasgow Road near to its junction with Cowan Wilson Avenue, Blantyre at around 12.15am on Sunday.

He sustained a serious facial injury, which will leave a permanent scarring, and was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride. He was treated and has since been released.

The only description of his attacker is that he was white.

Detective Constable Craig Jolly, Cambuslang CID, said: “The injured man had been on a night out with friends and was heading home when, for no apparent reason, he was attacked and left with an injury which, according to medics, will leave permanent scarring.

“Officers have checked CCTV and the man can be seen lying on the road after the attack. What we can also see is a good number of cars, some taxis, actually swerving to avoid the man and driving round him.

“We would ask those drivers, especially if they have any dash cam footage, to come forward to police as they may have information that will assist us in tracing the man responsible for this unprovoked attack.”
