This is the emotional moment Rangers legend Fernando Ricksen broke down in tears as devoted fans gathered around him to give him a standing ovation at Ibrox.

Pulling up at the stadium in a taxi on Saturday, hundreds of loyal supporters burst into cheers and applause as the Dutchman emerged from the car.

Just before emerging, he looks outside at the swelling crowd and, taken aback, mutters: “Perfect.”

Amid the moving reception outside, one fan can be heard shouting: “God bless you, Fernando.”

Overcome with emotion, Ricksen was moved to tears as a friend consoled him with a rub of the shoulder before draping a scarf around him.

Ricksen, 41, who suffers from Motor Neurone Disease, was then paraded to the fans during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match against Hamilton.

Inside the stadium, fans paid tribute in the stands by unfurling a massive banner, emblazoned with the words: “No surrender.”

Ricksen, who played almost 200 times for Rangers between 2000 and 2006, was diagnosed three years ago with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the most common form of the illness.

As reported by the Evening Times, he admitted earlier this month that his health is deteriorating rapidly and he has lost the ability to perform many basic functions.

The terminal disease has also affected his speech.

Former Rangers winger David Templeton was on target as Hamilton recorded their first league victory since 1926.

Templeton accepted a gift from Ross McCrorie to open the scoring inside two minutes of the second half and Darren Lyon netted his second first-team goal on a breakaway 10 minutes from time.

Hamilton finished the match with 10 men as Alex Gogic was sent off in stoppage time.

The 2-0 victory was Hamilton’s first win over the Light Blues since Adrian Sprott scored a famous cup winner at Ibrox 30 years ago.
