A hugely popular Glasgow nightclub is helping to alleviate the homelessness crisis with a massive birthday bash this weekend.

To celebrate 14 years on the city’s clubbing scene, The Buff Club is throwing a party and is looking to revellers to lend a helping hand to those with no home this winter.

Although entry to the night on Friday, November 24 is free, bosses are hoping clubbers will dig deep to give a donation at the door which will be given to homelessness charity Shelter.

Staff have described how the past year has been “such great fun for us” and all everyone involved.

A spokesman for the club said: “Along with making this a great night to celebrate, we hope that we can also raise money for a charity close to all of our hearts.

“It’s a small thing, but we see the effects of homelessness everyday. We hope we can come together to celebrate the good times and do a little good for those who need it most at this time of year.”

As exclusively revealed to the Evening Times, popular DJs from years gone by will once again be taking to the decks on the night.

Organisers will also be decorating Bath Lane with hundred of balloons and bunting, as well as the inside of the venue, where giveaways will be taking place throughout the party which ends at 4am.

The event comes just over a week after Shelter Scotland launched a public appeal for help with the “crisis” of homelessness.

In Scotland, the charity said official figures show 28,297 households were assessed as homeless last year and, at any one time, there were 10,873 households in temporary accommodation.

Shelter added how an estimated 5,000 people sleep rough on Scotland’s streets throughout the year.

Alison Watson, deputy director of the charity, said the number of homeless people is “distressing” and “shocking.”
