A 76-YEAR-OLD man is in a critical condition after being struck by a minivan.

Police are now appealing for information following the serious road crash in the Dalmuir area of Clydebank on Sunday at around 5.15pm.

The pensioner, who was hit by a white Ford Galaxy, while crossing the carriageway on Dumbarton Road, near Burns Street, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

The 35 year-old driver was uninjured.

The road was closed and then a contraflow system was established so officers could continue enquiries.

An investigation into the circumstances is underway and officers are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to contact them. Officers are also appealing to other motorists who were travelling along Dumbarton Road in the Dalmuir area to contact them.

Sergeant Paul MacPherson, Dumbarton Police Office, said: "We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and has any information that can help us to get in touch."
