The widow of Hollywood legend Gene Kelly has revealed her late husband wanted to film Brigadoon in Scotland -- but the weather was so bad the studio said no.

Patricia Ward Kelly said her husband and director Vincente Minnelli considered shooting the classic movie - which is set in Scotland - on location.

But the unpredictable climate put film studios Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer off.

Patricia was in Glasgow today re-enacting her husband's famous Singing in the Rain lamppost scene when she let the news slip.

She said: "Gene loved being in Glasgow. He was here in 1953 scouting the locations for Brigadoon.

Glasgow Times:

"He really wanted to do the movie here but unfortunately MGM didn't allow that.

"It [Glasgow] has always been a fond memory for him and it is really a privilege for me to be back."

In Gene Kelly's biography, which was written by wife Patricia, it was revealed that the high production costs of shooting on location combined with MGM president Dore Schary's eagerness to make low-budget films meant the idea to film in Scotland was canned.

With Gene Kelly in a starring role, Brigadoon sees two American pals getting lost in the Scottish woodlands and stumbling upon a magical village.

Patricia appears at the Royal Concert Hall on Thursday evening to perform a one-woman tribute show to her late husband, who passed away in 1996.

Titled Gene Kelly: The Legacy - An Evening with Patricia Ward Kelly, the show combines rare and familiar film clips, personal memorabilia and insights drawn from hours of interviews and conversations with her husband.
