A GLASGOW professor who has dedicated her life to helping the elderly become more active has been presented with a lifetime achievement award.
Professor Dawn Skelton, an exercise physiologist based at Glasgow Caledonian University, has worked with the NHS to incorporate strength and balance exercises aimed at reducing falls.
She is this year’s recipient of the British Geriatrics Society Marjory Warren Lifetime Achievement Award.
She said: “Falls affect everyone, and it’s everyone’s business. It costs the NHS billions a year, however, it’s the cost to the individual and their family and carers that really matter.”
