WORSHIPPERS at a Glasgow mosque were left horrified after a fight broke out between two men.

Shazad Mohammed attacked a man who he believed owed him money shortly after prayers had come to an end.

The 40-year-old flew into a rage after seeing the man before grabbing him by the beard and throwing him to the floor.

Mohammed attended the Masjid Noor Mosque on Forth Street, Pollokshaws, on May 26, when he came across his victim who was working as a volunteer at the time.

After prayers came to an end around 2.15pm, Mohammed approached the man and began threatening him in front of other worshippers. He shouted and uttered threats of violence towards his victim before grabbing him by his beard and attacking him.

He then seized hold of his body and dragged him to the floor causing injuries to the man’s face.

Others in the building began shouting at Mohammed to let the man go before managing to remove him from the scuffle by taking him into a prayer cupboard.

A senior member of the mosque was called to calm the situation down while the injured man was advised to go to the hospital for his injuries.
Medical staff found that the victim had damaged his nose, which needed to be straightened.

Following the fight, Mohammed launched another abusive tirade on the man at the mosque once again.

Other men were required to intervene to calm the situation down before deciding to call the police.

Mohammed appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to carrying out the assault. The court heard how the victim was involved in an arrangement with Mohammed’s dad regarding property.

It was noted there had been a disagreement about money and it was coincidental the pair bumped into each other in the mosque.

Mohammed was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within six months.
