A THIEF who raided a shop’s medication cabinet was chased down by staff.

Kenneth Wallace entered the Co-op shop on Tollcross Road on October 12 and headed straight for the medicine aisle.

Staff noticed the 48-year-old emptying numerous packets of medication into his jacket pocket.

He then tried to make a quick escape from the shop but was followed by the workers.

An unknown member of the public restrained him until police officers attended.

Following his arrest, Wallace was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary after informing cops that he had injured himself.

While inside the A&E department, he became aggressive and spat at a female police officer with spit landing on her right leg.

Further cops came to relieve those on duty when his behaviour escalated.

He uttered abusive remarks including “you think you’re something, I’ll show you when I kick your c*** in” before telling one officer to “go back to your own country, f*****g black b******s”.

He was then seen by medical staff who deemed him fit to detained in custody.

En route to the police office he made homophobic remarks and threatened to bite one of the supervising officers.

Wallace appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to the incident.

His solicitor told the court that his client accepts the seriousness of the offence.

It was added that he had ‘sobered up’ after a period in custody.

Sheriff Potten tagged Wallace for a period of five months, preventing him from leaving his home between 7pm and 7am.

He will also be under the supervision of the social work department for a period of 18 and will have to undergo alcohol counselling as an added requirement.
