SOME 30 jobs have been created with the opening of a new store.

The Food Warehouse has spent £750,000 in Coatbridge on a new 8200sq ft supermarket.

The first 100 customers through the doors yesterday received a complimentary gift as part of the Faraday Retail Park store’s opening, which included freezers, air fryers, and virtual reality goggles alongside other giveaways.

Store manager Paul McGeecham said: “Our team is looking forward to welcoming the people of Coatbridge to our store.”

Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday until 8pm.

Part of the Iceland Group, The Food Warehouse has been expanding rapidly across the UK since the opening of its first store in September 2014, and has plans to accelerate its growth from the current opening rate of 25 new stores each year.

Trading in units of 10-15,000 sq ft, more than twice the size of a typical Iceland high street store, The Food Warehouse offers the full Iceland range complemented by extended ranges of luxury and speciality frozen food, chilled meat and fresh produce, fine wines and craft beers, a wide selection of value bulk packs of grocery products, and selected bargain homeware lines.

Iceland founder Sir Malcolm Walker added: “Our major investments of at least £750,000 in each new The Food Warehouse store and over £500,000 in each Iceland refurbishment underline our confidence in the future of our business.

“I very much look forward to celebrating the opening of our 1,000th store around the time of Iceland’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2020.”
