A WOMAN handed over drugs to her boyfriend in jail to help him cope with the stress of having a price over his head, a court has heard.

Florence Josephine Carroll, 24, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the offence.

She admitted that she concealed cannabis resin in her hand and passed it to her boyfriend within the visiting area.

The offence happened at Low Moss Prison on October 18, this year.

Carroll’s defence agent told the court that her boyfriend is serving a three year custodial sentence for a weapons offence.

He was suffering low mood and receiving threats in custody from a well-known family.

They had put out money of £5,000 “to do him some harm” which was increased to £10,000 in custody.

The defence agent said: “She accepts that it was an extremely stupid decision.” He also described the way she handed over the drugs as “clumsy” and “amateur”.

He added: “She is aware it is a serious matter.”

Sentencing Sheriff Aisha Anwar told Carroll that she had put her liberty at risk.

Carroll, of the Hillington area, however avoided jail and was handed a restriction of liberty order.

She was tagged for 40 days which was reduced from 60 days because she plead guilty at the early.
