A CITY charity shop is urging music fans to donate unwanted records to help raise funds for a good cause.

Oxfam’s Byres Road music shop is appealing for locals who are having pre-Christmas clear outs to donate their unwanted records.

The shop relies on donations from members of the public to stock its shelves and current supplies are running low.

Shop Manager Andrew McWhinnie promises to try and find new homes for all records that are brought in.

He said: "Sometimes the records people donate raise a few smiles, but what’s more important is the fact they also raise a few pounds which go towards the fight against poverty - that’s music to anyone’s ears.

"Every time you donate to one of our stores you’re not just clearing out your house, you’re providing those in the most need with safe water, or helping them sustain their own farms, or giving young girls access to a life changing education.

“We’ve all got the power to help change the world and everyone who donates to or shops in our stores is doing their bit, in their own way, to help create a fairer future for everyone.”

For shoppers looking for last minute stocking fillers, the shop will also be open late on Wednesday, December 20 for an evening of festive fun.

There will be live guitar sessions from local musicians, a Christmassy choir, food and drink, a prize draw and the chance to hear from Oxfam Scotland’s campaigns team about how you can help refugees to be reunited with their families. Entry is free.
