A GLASGOW MSP has joined with two charities to help give vulnerable kids a Christmas this year.

Anas Sarwar, Glasgow Labour MSP, has organised the annual Glasgow Cares toybank appeal to give presents to hundreds of Children in the city.

The MSP has again chosen Children 1st and Glasgow Women’s Aid who will identify children who would benefit from a donated gift.

The politician said that every year brought a higher number of families in need of help at Christmas as more and more parents find they are struggling to cope all year round leaving nothing for Christmas.

The appeal has been running for many years and Mr Sarwar said it is getting bigger and bigger with more donations received and greater need identified.

The appeal is designed to help children of all ages with the aim of trying to guarantee a Christmas for every child across Glasgow.

He said: “Every year we think it can’t get any bigger but every year it does.

“That is down to the generosity of the people of Glasgow and of many businesses in the city.

“Sadly more and more people every year need that support. As we see more austerity we are seeing more people struggling and people needing more help.”

He said the charities were chosen because they identify the most vulnerable families and children in the city.

HE added: “Children 1st is the most respected children’s charity in the UK supporting children from difficult and diverse backgrounds.

“Glasgow Women’s Aid deals with families going through severe hardship suffering family breakdown and women and children fleeing domestic abuse and violence.

As well as toys for children of all ages Mr Sarwar said there are two age groups where it it has been difficult to identify gifts.

He said for toddlers and for children in their early teens the charity was also asking for donations of vouchers, either for services or stores.

Donations of new or unopened toys can be handed into Mr Sarwar’s office at 423 Paisley Road West until Friday or pick up can e arranged by calling or emailing anas.sarwar.msp@parliament.scot
