GRAEME MURTY admits he was put through an emotional wringer as Rangers battled to victory at Easter Road.

The Light Blues were behind after just nine minutes as Lewis Stevenson gave Neil Lennon’s side the lead but goals from Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos late in the first half turned the tide in Rangers’ favour.

This was a fourth win on the spin for the Gers and interim boss Murty had mixed emotions at the end of a dramatic evening.

He said: “I’m delighted with the three points. I’ve just said that I endured that more than enjoyed it.

“Lads showed good spirit, battling nature. Hibs imposed themselves upon us and we reacted for long spells.

“We didn’t deal with the ball well enough to alleviate the pressure. So I changed the shape to get. Us on the ball more.

“You need resilience. We invited a lot of pressure on to ourselves.

“Players need to make challenges, win headers. We did that – although we did ride our luck at times.

“We had chances t cause problems on the break but were too loose and slack with the ball. When you do that, you invite pressure.

“‘You can see that in the way we approach the game. As soon as a pass goes astray, it affects us for significant period.

“Wins have a wonderful effect on the changing room. They’re sitting in there agreeing that we didn’t’ hit the heights. But winning here while not playing our best, you’d take that.”

Hibs were left to feel aggrieved as they were left with nothing to show for their efforts at the end of an entertaining clash at Easter Road.

Rangers have produced some impressive performances since Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha in the dugout but this was a different kind of win for the Light Blues.

And Murty admits his message at the interal was changed as Windass and Morelos netted in quick succession to change the course of the game.

He said: “The lads saved themselves a little bit from some harsher words at halftime.

“They were the first two passages of play where we used the ball properly.

“So they dug themselves out of a hole. That wasn’t me, just them using the ball properly.

“It changed the team talk, from enduring in first half to getting more composure. It didn’t happen. But we got the win.

“Yes, I can criticise [the players]. As long as it’s done constructively, not to wear the player down.

“It’s never, ever just to make myself feel better or dig the player out.

“The players know we didn’t reach the heights. But the managed to find a way.”
