Hundreds of pounds and more than 200 toys have been collected for children and families by a Glasgow MSP.

James Dornan Cathcart SNP MSP ran a toy collection to help families in the constituency. Mr Dornan said he was “blown away” by the amount of donations.

As well as the toys the appeal raised nearly £600 in cash donations which has been used to buy food, Christmas dinners and essentials to help families.

Mr Dornan said “ I am so thankful for every single person or organisation who took the time and money to contribute to this appeal.

“There are many families in my constituency who are facing difficult times over Christmas but this community has always pulled together in order to support each other.

A spokeswoman for the DAISY centre in Castlemilk, helping women fleeing domestic violence, which will benefit, said “we cannot thank people enough for the donations, we are overwhelmed with the kindness and we have several families who will benefit.”
