THE top baby names for Glasgow in 2017 have been revealed.

Muhammad is once again the most popular name for new born boys in the city with Olivia the favourite for girls.

In Glasgow in the last year there were 70 boys named Muhammad and 55 little Olivias came into the world.

Jack, Oliver Adam, Leo and Lewis were the next top in the city for boys and Emily Isla Ava and Jessica were next top for girls.

Jack and Olivia were the top names in Scotland with 453 baby Jacks and 484 Olivias across the country.

Oliver James Lewis and Noah completed the top five in Scotland for boys.

Emily Isla Sophie and Jessica made up the rest of the five most popular for girls.

Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop, said: “Naming your baby is such an important decision and it’s always fun to see the names parents around Scotland are choosing.

“This year’s figures show some names have an enduring appeal, with Jack and Olivia confirming themselves as the most popular across Scotland – Jack for the tenth year in a row and Olivia for the second.

“The trend for unique names remains far higher than it has been in previous decades, indicating that today’s parents are thinking long and hard before choosing names for their babies."
