The body of a missing Maryhill man has been recovered by police.

Thomas Keenan was reported missing on November 21 and was last seen at around 5.50am within the Esso Service Station at 900 Maryhill Road.

Police confirmed that his body was recovered from the Forth and Clyde Canal near to Ruchill Street in Maryhill on Thursday afternoon.

Thomas was said to be in a confused and anxious state when he was last seen.

Concerns were raised after he disappeared wearing just shorts and a t-shirt as temperatures dropped ahead of Christmas.

Thomas' sister Bernadette took to social media on Thursday to appeal for her brother to come home to meet his niece, who was born on December 18.

The family had previously said that Thomas, who suffered from mental health problems, had been refused treatment by the NHS.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 12.50pm on Thursday January 4, 2018 the body of a man was recovered from the Forth and Clyde Canal near to Ruchill Street in Maryhill.

"Although formal identification has still to take place, officers believe that it is Thomas Keenan and his family has been informed.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
