DRIVERS and cyclists in Glasgow's Southside are being advised to avoid parts of Clarkston Road after a water main burst.

The incident has forced emergency works from Scottish Water due to subsequent road damage.

Engineers from Scottish Water are currently working to repair the issue on the road near the junction with Rhannan Road and Delvin Road.

The two city-bound lanes of Clarkston Road are closed at this location to allow work to continue, with local diversions in operation.

It is estimated that the road will re-open at around 7.00pm this evening but delays may be experienced as the road has been closed to traffic prior to Newlands Road.

The lane closures, near to Cathcart train station, will be lifted as quickly as possible following the completion of the repair work.

Scottish Water have said that the incident is "not having any significant impact on water supplies" to properties in the area.
