A HOMEOWNER was left shaken following a daylight robbery at a Renfrewshire property yesterday.

Five men broke into a house in Newlandscraigs Drive, Elderslie on Saturday at around 2pm.

As they made their way around the house, the householder confronted them.

He was then pushed over by one of the suspects and assaulted before he managed to lock himself in the bathroom.

The suspects stole money and several items of jewellery before exiting via the rear of the property.

The money and items stolen are estimated in the region of a four-figure sum and include rings and earrings.

The 58-year-old householder has been left badly shaken but he did not require to attend hospital.

He was however checked over by paramedics at the scene.

Officers believe the men may have got into a vehicle before making off.

It’s possible this vehicle was parked in Glenpatrick Road which is a main road feeding into Newlandscraigs Drive and are appealing to motorists who may have been on this road around the time of the incident to contact them.

In particular, if anyone has any dash cam footage, please pass it to police.

The suspects were wearing balaclavas and one of them was around 5 ft 7 inches in height, wearing a black bomber jacket, balaclava and black gloves.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and are gathering any relevant CCTV footage from in and around the area for review and any additional information.

Detective Sergeant Alastair Semple said: “This has been an extremely frightening experience for the householder.

"Several personal items of jewellery have been taken, many of which hold great sentimental value and are irreplaceable to the owners.

"I am urging people in the area to think back and consider if they saw anything which they thought was a little odd.

"Did you see a group of men hanging around the street, did you hear anything suspicious? Was there a car or van which seemed out of place?

"Any small piece of information could prove vital in our investigation to trace the men responsible for this crime."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Paisley Police Station via 101, quoting incident 1702 of the 6 January 2018.
