Dozens of vile trolls have been flooding social media with cruel comments aimed at ex-Rangers star Nacho Novo who is recovering from a heart attack in Berlin.

Many of the comments echo a “song” which has been sung and aimed at the star in the past.

It contains the lyrics: “I hope you die in your sleep Nacho Novo, I hope you die in your sleep, I pray…”

One tweet said: “I hope you die in your sleep nacho novo.......”

One Twitter user wrote: “This is just disgusting from Celtic fans. Yes I appreciate not all of them have this opinion, in fact many of the are very respectful and wish Nacho Novo a speedy recovery, but it’s just people like this that make Celtic look bad, wishing he’d ‘die within a week’.”

Another added: “Get well soon Wee Nacho Novo. Absolutely disgusting the amount of tweets from ‘rival’ fans of our club wanting an ex footballer to die. This country’s football is pure poisonous no wonder no c**t is interested #nachonovo.”

As reported by the Evening Times, the former Rangers striker is in a stable condition after suffering a heart attack on Saturday evening.

The 38-year-old was featuring for Rangers in the AOK Traditionsmasters 2018 in Berlin when he was taken ill after they had been knocked out of the round-robin tournament.

He was reportedly rushed to hospital from the Max-Schmeling-Halle arena before undergoing emergency surgery.

The Gers confirmed that Novo, who played at Ibrox between 2004 and 2010, is in a stable condition.

The Ibrox club said in a statement: “The Club can confirm that Nacho Novo took ill after playing in the AOK Traditionmasters tournament in Berlin. He was admitted to hospital and is in a stable condition.

“Everyone at the club wishes Nacho a speedy recovery.”

His model girlfriend has thanked fans and loved ones for their support.

Stephanie Heaney, 33, said her other half has been “getting lots of rest” and is being “well looked after” by “amazing” doctors.

She added in a statement online: “Everyone at Rangers football club have been constantly on the phone and keeping up to date with his progress.

“Nachos getting lots of rest at the moment and he's well looked after the doctors have been amazing .

“Thank you again to all the fans and friends for all the amazingly kind messages of support for Nacho.”

“I am with him all day and night giving him love,” the mother-of-two, of Busby, said.
