CALLUM McGREGOR has told Marvin Compper the key to his success at Celtic will be getting to grips with the enormity of the club.

The former German internationalist is in Dubai with his new team-mates and joined them yesterday for his first training session as a Parkhead player.

He comes to Scotland with a wealth of experience having played in his homeland and in Italy, but McGregor insists the 32-year-old must not fall into the same trap as others and underestimate the mindset of playing for the Hoops.

He said: “It comes to the point where you are part of a successful team and that’s what you want it to stay like, being successful. A lot of players will never win anything in their careers and you have a massive chance here at Celtic to win a lot of trophies, be successful and have that against your name.

“It’s a special place to be. I think all the boys recognise that they want to work hard and be successful.

“It’s about that expectation and getting that early doors and a feel for how big the club actually is.

“You see a lot of people come and go and not actually realise how big a thing it is. That when you’re playing on a Saturday you are playing for that Celtic community. It’s more than just playing a game.

“After the game it’s fine if you win or draw, but it’s trying to understand the enormity of the club and the cause you are playing for.

“You have seen them come and go over the years. A lot of the time it’s foreign players but that’s probably down to them not really knowing how big Celtic is. I think there are a lot of Scottish and British boys are talking to them and saying ‘Right, this is a massive club and you need to be at it every week’.

“That helps as well. We are all trying to help each other, especially the new guys coming in. The Scottish boys will tell them about the culture of the club to get it over early doors.”
