A BODY discovered in Dumbarton is missing man Scott McSporran.

Police Scotland confirmed that a formal identification had taken place of the 42-year-old who vanished on Friday, December 29.

We previously revealed the body was recovered in the Dumbarton area at around 5.30pm on Monday, January 8.

The force have been searching for missing Scott who was last seen by his brother in Ardoch Crescent in the Brucehill area of Dumbarton around 8pm on the day he vanished.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "A formal identification has now taken place and we can confirm that the body is that of Scott McSporran, 42, who had been missing from the Clydebank area since Friday, December 29.

"Relatives are aware. A post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which officers are treating as unexplained at this time.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
