The Tollcross woman who is battling with her local housing association to allow her to move into her late mother's home is to meet with its director.

It comes as her local MSP for Glasgow Shettleston, John Mason, also intervened by writing a letter to housing bosses.

The Evening Times exclusively reported on the story of Andrena McInnes last week.

Thousands of people backed the grieving East End woman’s fight to be allowed to move into her late mother’s home - which is just next door.

The 39-year-old lost her mum just two days after Christmas and faced losing the property which her family has lived in for 33 years.

She pleaded with Tollcross Housing Association (THA) to allow her to swap homes as her mother’s house is just one gate along from her.

However, the carer said bosses were not allowing the seemingly straightforward move to happen.

Now, though, Andrena has confirmed she is set to meet with housing director Michael Byrne and manager Maureen Barns on Monday.

When contacted by the Evening Times, a THA staff member said they could not comment on individual cases.

A petition set up by Andrena has, so far, gathered over 7,000 signatures, something she said she was “overwhelmed” with.

Breaking down while speaking to the title on Wednesday, Andrena said: “I can’t take the thought of seeing someone else live there. I’m sitting in her chair right now. The housing would need to move me. It would knock me ill.

In a final plea to THA bosses, Andrena said: “I just don’t understand why there can’t be a straight swap.”

The Evening Times has contacted John Mason’s office for comment.
