Police have launched an attempted murder probe after a man was left with serious facial injuries in Renfrew.

The 37-year-old was discovered in Wilson Street - at its junction with Houston Street - in Renfrew at around 1.10am on Sunday, January 14 having been assaulted.

He remains in a critical condition at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Detective Inspector Nathan Calderwood at Paisley CID described how his colleagues have information to suggest the man sustained his severe injuries after being assaulted by one man, adding: “It is vital that we trace the person responsible.”

He continued: “We previously appealed for three men who were seen standing outside the motorbike shop in Dunlop Street around this time to contact police. I can confirm they have done so.

“I now would like to speak to a man who was seen around 12.20pm on Sunday, January 14 walking from Houston Street, into Wilson Street and towards Renfrew Town Hall.

“It is vital this man contacts police immediately as he may be able to provide crucial information that could assist our enquiries.”
