A popular city centre nightclub has thrown open its doors to help the homeless in an initiative that has been widely-praised.

The team at Victoria’s Nightclub in Sauchiehall Street have been inviting those with no home to head along to the venue from 7pm to 11.30pm every Wednesday to collect some much-needed essentials, including food and clothing.

Ex-Celtic WAG Lisa Hague threw her support behind the amazing initiative as she headed down to the club last night where she made and posted a video onto her Twitter page.

She later added: “Met some amazing people tonight, homeless and volunteers with @VickiesOfficial everyone deserves respect, everyone deserves to feel loved. A difference has been made tonight, but so much more needs to be done. Every person matters.”

The team hopes to keep on with the project once a week for the rest of January.

Set to take place again next Wednesday (January 24), the club is calling for donations and volunteers.

The team said: “We are looking for all the help we can get to make this wee programme work as, if it works, we can do more in the coming months.

“We are looking for unused backpacks, clothes, hoodies, fleece jumpers, covers, and  blankets.

“More importantly, we need food, water, and juice along with sweets.

“We are also looking for volunteers to go into teams around the streets prior to opening, and welcome anyone from a medical background.

“We will open our doors from 3pm for anyone who would like to help or hand anything in.”

Readers who wish to hand in donations should comment under this Facebook post so the nightclub team knows what to expect and sort through.
