WEST End locals braved the snow to check out Glasgow's newest primary school.

Broomhill Primary was this week open to the public, in a council first, before staff and pupils move in next Wednesday, January 24.

The £16 million new primary school boasts 18 teaching spaces and six break out areas as well as stadium seating.

Pupils will benefit from a nurture room, drama room and media library.

Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills & Early Years, visited the school to take a tour around.

He said: “This is an amazing new school that I know the pupils, school staff and families will be very impressed with.

“It is a modern building with state of the art facilities that will complement the excellent high teaching standards of our staff.

“This is the beginning of a bright new future for the Broomhill Primary school community.”

The school is one of several new builds around the city built with cash from the five-year 4Rs primary school investment programme.

It joins Gowanbank Primary, Dalmarnock, Blairdardie and Carntyne primaries as the latest new builds for city youngsters.

Broomhill had long been in need of a new primary as the existing school building had been split over two sites and was in poor repair.

The new school will hold 462 pupils but is designed to allow for the roll to increase by around 50 if there is a change in circumstances in the future.
