Former Rangers ace Nacho Novo has returned home to Scotland after suffering a heart attack during a charity game in Germany. 

The 38-year-old, was featuring for Rangers in the AOK Traditionsmasters 2018 on Saturday, January 6 in Berlin when he took ill.

He was rushed to hospital from the Max-Schmeling-Halle arena before undergoing emergency surgery.

The football hero was released from hospital at the start of the week and returned home to Glasgow yesterday, January 19.

The organisers of the 'legends' competition that Novo was taking part in, Fußball-Legenden, tweeted: "We are happy to announce that Nacho Novo is finally back home in Glasgow.

"Naturally we will keep in touch with the Rangers legend and wish him and Stephanie all the best.

"We have invited Nacho to be our special guest for next years 10th anniversary tournament. Stay safe Nacho!"

As previously reported by the Evening Times, Novo's girlfriend, Stephanie Heaney, praised the doctors who had been treating the footballer after he suffered the heart attack.

The 33-year-old model said her other half was all “cuddles and talking football” as she assured fans she would have him home safe and sound “no matter what it takes.”
