A dog that was stolen two and half years ago in Glasgow has been reunited with his owner after police scanned his micro-chip.

Four month old, Cooper, was stolen on August 19, 2015, from a van on Busby Main Street in Glasgow's south side.

Sister of owner Lee Green, sent out a plea on social media to try and help trace the dog which she claimed had been left in the van with the window down for no more than five minutes.

Two and a half years later Cooper has been reunited with his owners after a dog warden found him wandering the streets in Ayrshire.

The dog was taken to a police station where his chip was scanned and details revealed he belonged to Lee.

The story was posted on Facebook by LostDogs-Scotland.org.uk who wrote: "Always chip your dog! This is Cooper's story told by his owner's sister.

"Lee Green's 4 month old Jack Russell puppy was stolen from his van on Busby main Street, Glasgow on Wednesday 19th August at 12:40. Two and a half years ago.

"Cooper was left in Lee's unlocked van with windows down for less than 5 minutes when a man, thought to be Irish, stole Cooper from the van. We don't know for sure but we are suspecting he has been stolen to be sold on, so unfortunately he could be anywhere in the country just now.

"UPDATE: Cooper has been found and is back with his owner.

"I just wanted you to know that today my brother was reunited with his gorgeous dog that was stolen 2 and a half years ago. Just wanted to thank u for ur support at the time and just shows you that you should never lose hope!"

Lee's sister confirmed that the dog is healthy and happy to be back with his owner.

The post has been flooded with happy comments from those who followed Cooper's story when he first went missing.

Jacqueline Allan wrote: "Amazing news I remember Cooper's story like it was yesterday. Welcome home."

Laura Redmond added: "I was just talking about this the other day. So glad Cooper is home."
