A man has been detained over what police described as an attempt to injure one of their officers.

The incident happened in Bannockburn Road, Stirling, just after 8.30pm on Saturday.

Police Scotland said a male on-duty police officer, along with his female colleague, left their marked vehicle to speak to a man driving a white Ford Transit van.

But the vehicle then drove away, causing the male officer to "take evasive action" to avoid being involved in a collision, police said.

A man has been detained in connection with the incident, officers confirmed.

Chief Inspector Gill Boulton said: "We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident, who may have information that can assist our inquiries.

"I would ask anyone who was in Bannockburn Road on Saturday evening, and did witness this incident, to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
