Celtic ace Jack Aitchison has paid heartbreaking tribute to his dad who passed away at the weekend.

The 17-year-old forward took to his Twitter page where he wrote: “RIP Dad, You’ve been taken too soon. My hero! I’ll make you proud.”

He was inundated with hundreds of comments from both Hoops and Rangers fans who were quick to extend their sympathy.

Celtic Football Club and fellow footballers also shared touching messages.

“Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Jack, at this sad time. #YNWA,” the club wrote.

Striker Moussa Dembélé said: “May your dad Rest In Peace #StayStrong.”

Manchester United’s Angel Gomes added: “Thoughts are with you and your family mate, God bless.”

Overwhelmed with all the support, Aitchison - from Fauldhouse in West Lothian - later said: “Thanks for all the messages and support from everyone, much appreciated.”

Last year, Aitchison became Celtic’s youngest-ever scorer in a competitive match when he netted in a 7-0 win over Motherwell on the final game of the previous season.

He has always credited his dad, George, with his success.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2016, Aitchison said: “I need to thank my dad because he worked two jobs but, when he came home about 7pm, he would take me out to the park and help me with extra training. He’s been doing that for a couple of years.”
