Former Celtic boss John Barnes said he was “surprisingly OK” as he was evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother house, because it all happened so quickly.

The ex-footballer left the Channel 5 reality show in a quiet back door eviction during Monday night’s show.

He had been nominated alongside Daniel O’Reilly by the women’s team, during a battle of the sexes task.

When the women won, they had to choose which of the nominated housemates to save, and decided comedian O’Reilly deserved to stay.

Speaking in the Diary Room before leaving, Barnes said it was unexpected but there were “no hard feelings”.

“I don’t feel that they don’t like me but I feel like they get on better with Dan… he is the life and soul of the house,” he said.

“There are no hard feelings whatsoever because I know it is a hard decision for them to take.

“You can see Ashley crying, you can see Malika crying and I know people don’t cry that quickly if they are faking it.”

The star said he was looking forward to seeing his wife and kids after his stay in the reality TV house.

Barnes as Celtic head coach for the 1999-2000 season

Barnes was appointed head coach at Celtic for the 1999-2000 season, an appointment which quickly ended in disaster.

In February 2000, a then First Division Inverness Caley Thistle thrashed the Hoops3-1 at Parkhead, knocking them out of the Scottish Cup.
