Glasgow is set to be drenched this week as heavy rain moves in after a week of snow showers amid the icy Arctic blast that swept across Scotland.

Heavy downpours have already hit the city and its surrounding areas early Tuesday morning - with the possibility of “severe” winds.

The Met Office has said the rain will turn patchy later with gales set to hit overnight.

Of today’s outlook, the weather service said: “Tuesday will be a cloudy morning with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times. The rain will turn more patchy in the afternoon with some sunny spells developing. It will be breezy with the maximum temperature hitting 11 °C.”

“Any rain will soon die out with clear spells for a time. Persistent, often heavy, rain will take over early in the night with gales, perhaps severe at times, clearing to showers by dawn. Minimum temperature will be 2 °C,” added the service of tonight.

Wednesday will see frequent blustery showers and strong westerly winds. There will be a risk of gales in the morning, but winds will ease to in the afternoon with the mercury reaching 8 °C.

On Thursday, scattered showers will turn cold overnight with frost.

Friday will see another miserable day with thick cloud and rain with more of the same - plus added winds - on Saturday.
