A BUS was evacuated after vandals struck and a window was shattered while it was moving.

The First Glasgow 7A bus service was travelling along Prospecthill Road towards Aitkenhead Road in Toryglen when it was hit.

The attack happened on Monday at around 5.15pm and one passenger on-board the service believes the bus it could have been shot at.

The passenger, who did not want to be named, said: “There was a young woman sat right beside the window which shattered. As far as I know nobody was hurt.

“The young woman got quite a fright, we probably all did.

“The window completely shattered and there was a round hole left, which someone thought was a bullet. They said that it was not caused by a stone or anything.”

The window which was targeted was in the middle of the double decker bus on the lower deck.

The passenger said that there was significant damage left and after the driver was informed of the incident, all other passengers were asked to leave the service.

Police Scotland were not called to the scene but the passenger called the force’s 101 service to inform them of the incident.

He was told that officers would contact First Glasgow to further investigate.

A spokesman for First Glasgow said: “The incident was reported internally and to our insurers following investigation.

“No evidence or suggestion of a gun being fired was found so it was deemed purely as an isolated incident of vandalism.

“Incidents like this, no matter how large or small, have to be reported by our drivers and investigated in the same way.

“In this instance, the correct safety measures were followed.

“Customer safety is our number one priority in an incident of this nature and we are fortunate that incidents like this are very rare in the area.”

The Evening Times understand that First Glasgow previously worked with Police Scotland to tackle similar incidents in the past in the Gorbals area.
