A BANNED driver who was caught behind the wheel has been left lighter in the pocket for his Boxing Day blunder.

When Shoaib Butt was pulled over by cops during a routine check, he quickly admitted driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.

Fiscal depute Clara Smeaton told Glasgow Sheriff Court that the 41-year-old accused had his licence taken off him in April 2017 and was not eligible to drive again until May 2019.

Butt's lawyer noted: "He doesn't have a great record as far as road traffic offences are concerned."

The accused, who was caught along Corkerhill Road on December 26 last year, was said to appreciate how serious the breach was. It was explained that he offered to drive the car after someone suffered an injury.

Sheriff Norman Ritchie fined Butt, of Calvay Road, £600 and banned him from driving for a further three years.
