A POPULAR chippy in Glasgow's city centre has been forced to shut unexpectedly.
Owners at Pommes Frites have expressed their sadness that they have "reluctantly" been asked to shut.
Ex-footie player Emmanuel Panther launched the chip shop on Sauchiehall Street in 2014, which proved to be popular with clubbers and foodies alike.
The eatery specialised in serving twice cooked Belgian style chips with in-house made seasonings and sauces. A post on the Pommes Frites Facebook page read:
"It’s with great sadness to announce that Pommes Frites has reluctantly being forced to close.
"Even though we were great tenants, our landlord chose not to renew our lease. This left us with no option but to close.
"We’ve had great fun serving you over the past 3 and a half years. We will miss asking you what seasoning and sauce you want on your chips.
"Thank you Glasgow and goodbye."
The announcement has been met with much disappointment from customers, who have been posting about the shock the closure online.
However this has prompted a reply from the team from Pommes Frites, who added: "To say we are overwhelmed is an understatement! Thank you for the kind messages and support.
"You guys have given us something to think about..."
