CHRISSIE Hynde's The Pretenders, Fleet Foxes and First Aid Kit are set to play one of Glasgow's most popular new music festivals.

The line-up for this year's Summer Night's boutique festival at Kelvingrove Bandstand has been announced with the Brass in Pocket legends getting the party started on July 30.

Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry, OMD and Van Morrison are also booked for the August event, which is taking place over 12 nights from July 30 to August 11.

The festival was launched in 2014 at the newly revamped £2.1million bandstand in Kelvingrove Park and has been widely praised by music fans and artists alike for its atmosphere, line-up and facilities

Welsh legend Sir Tom Jones has performed in successive years, describing the bandstand as a,"truly unique venue."

The event has received a major boost with the announcement by Heineken UK that it will continue to provide sponsorship for the next four years, guaranteeing the festival's future.

Other acts confirmed for Summer Nights 2018 include; Jamaican ska and reggae star Jimmy Cliff, Glasgow favourites The Fratellis and Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera fame.

Gerry White of event promoters Regular Music said: "We've a phenomenal line up yet again filled with both high profile local and International artists.

"We like to think we've covered the entire musical spectrum.

"Also with help from our sponsors we've invested heavily in the venue and it's infrastructure.

"From the stage itself to the amazing mood lighting illuminating the park and it's an incredible backdrop."

"We have removed all of those awful portaloos which often blight Festival sites and replaced them with VIP facilites with hot and cold running water.

"Our food and drink concessions also do not charge festival prices and are comparable with the local West End bars.

John Hutcheson Director Heineken UK said: "We are absolutely delighted to announce we've extended Birra Moretti's sponsorship of the annual Summer Night's concerts at Kelvingrove for a further four years.

"There are other events at the bandstand throughout the year but securing its flagship Summer festival is a major coup."
