A MAN who was caught with a blade told police it was his sister’s vegetable knife.

Now Martin McInnes has been tagged for forgetting he had the weapon in his pocket.

Fiscal depute Leslie Chambers told Glasgow Sheriff Court that the 34-year-old accused was stopped by police on uniformed patrol after exiting a retail store in the city.

McInnes, who was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a substance, admitted that he’d just taken his methadone prescription.

The officers asked the accused if he had anything sharp on his person as he was about to be searched. McInnes then confessed to having his sister’s vegetable knife, which he “forgot” to leave behind.

A three-inch bladed knife was recovered from his pocket.

McInnes later pleaded guilty to having the blade within his possession in Admiral Street without lawful authority or a reasonable excuse on December 27 last year.

Defending, Mr Robertson had no issue with the Crown’s narrative. He accepted that it was a serious matter, but highlighted his client’s positive Criminal Justice Social Work report.

Sheriff Shona Gilroy noted: “It strikes me that he [McInnes] would benefit from supervision.”

Sheriff Gilroy sentenced the accused to a Community Payback Order with supervision for 12 months. McInnes was also handed a Restriction of Liberty Order in which he will have to remain at home in Paisley Road between the hours of 7pm and 7am for four months.
